Transparent Watermedia

Transparent watermedia is a somewhat new term you will see occurring more often.  This medium consists of either traditional watercolor painted in a transparent manner usually on watercolor paper or using acrylic paint diluted with water and other mediums to produce a transparent effect similar to watercolor.  Acrylics painted in this manner have several advantages as one can combine transparent, translucent and opaque methods on the same painting. Once dry, the transparent acrylic painting will withstand water and moisture which makes the paintings considered by many to be “permanent.”  In addition to painting both mediums on Arches 100% rag watercolor paper, new canvases are now available for use with watercolor and acrylics painted in this manner. These canvases are from Fredrix, a well respected name in artist’s canvases.  The product is called, “Watercolor Canvas.” Both are used by Artist JGH and will be featured on this web site from time to time.  The medium and the grounds will be indicated in the listing for each painting.
